A good pair of noise-cancelling headphones is ALWAYS worth the money. I’ve owned many a pair of headphones, and I can safely say that AirPods Max take the cake.
Now this is only my opinion, and to you, they might not be the best pair on the market, this is totally subjective.
In the past, (in high school for me), having AirPods was all the rage, i don’t really know why. Until I bought my first pair for $219 ($219 for a pair of bluetooth headphones now is low-mid range, yikes) it was the COVID-19 pandemic and we were all locked inside. Considering I had JUST gotten my first kitchen job before lockdown happened (I was 16 or 17) and the Aussie government was giving financial assistance to those who were missing out on pay (I was working roughly 20 hours a week) so technically, I qualified. The assistance was pretty much double what I was already paid as a 16-17-year-old cook, so trust and believe it was the time to make some fun adult purchases.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, I REALLY got into music. So having “good” headphones by 16-17-year-old-me standards,- was important.
Sadly, 1.5 years later at age 18, my first pair of AirPods kicked the can. So you know what I bought? THE AIRPODS PRO’s OF COURSE (obviously post lockdown and making a little more money). They were AWESOME. I discovered noise cancellation, and my world was CHANGED. I could get the school bus without having to listen to background chatter from year 7’s, I couldn’t hear it he bus motor underneath me, just PURE. MUSIC.
However, post-high school, and working full-time now as an apprentice, I made a little MORE money – literally like 600 a week :,) (poor). i decided to save for a pair of overhead headphones, as little buds got real annoying (and sore). I got, my first REAL pair of headphones, the Bose QuietComfort Noise Cancelling Headphones – priced at $445 (not bad).
At the time, it was most of my paycheck so it was quite A LOT for 19-year-old me. The ending to this story is a sad one though. At my old job, they got *drumroll please* STOLEN! *gasp* (I wish I was kidding). I had them for a whole 7 months. I was DISTRAUGHT. I loved them with all my heart, I would still have them today if they weren’t so callously pinched from my work bag.
However poor old me didn’t really have any other choice but to go back to my pros (which was ok I promise – def not), but music never sounded quite the same. It stayed that way until just after my 21st birthday.
Fate struck, my mother was selling her old pair of AirPod Max’s, I had just started a new job, I got paid NOICE now, so what did I do? I buy them off her. I listen to some music, and my world is ROCKED. Somehow even better than the Bose QC. They were my favourite pair of headphones, until unfortunately about a month ago, they kicked the can. (They lasted six years – so quite a good run.) I was so mad.
I could NOT give up my life of noise-cancelling headphones. So I logged onto Amazon, and got a low-range pair of Sonys to get me through until I FINALLY saved enough for the new model AirPod Max’s. But, the Sony’s I bought were only $150 (on sale) and were a FABULOUS budget alternative if you want good headphones at a lower price. ( They were the Sony WH-CH720N’s)
TODAY, I bought a NEW pair of Airpod Max 2’s. After saving for about six weeks (obviously i got bills to pay and I’m paid fortnightly). I am SO happy, and currently listening to INFERNO by BoC. It’s great.
So ultimately, I have to side with Apple headphones. The Max models at least. They just have the features that work best with my phone, and the noise-cancelling is fabulous, gorgeous.
Do I think the $999 AUD Is worth it? If it lasts longer than the last pair did? YES! However, we are yet to find out, I will keep you all updated I guess
(Imagine in one week i’m holding a headphone funeral, I would probably pass away from financial ruin actually).
