Albums that I would definitely recommend, what kind of vibe they may be, what season they’d be for. Some sad, some happy, some potentially angry ones, but most importantly, good ones. (Trust me I hopefully know ball – to be entirely fair all music taste is subjective so honour me as only a humble guide.)
Listening to an album in full for me is the primary way to understand the story and artist is telling through their music, and the only real way to listen to an artists’ discography. I feel you don’t really get the full picture if you’re just picking and choosing different songs from an album you like and just disregarding the others. You never know what you might find by just listening to something the whole way through.
My favourite kind of album to listen to is when the album is sonically cohesive, where it sounds like the whole album is one song, and you can seamlessly listen the whole way through. Transitions that some artists will sneak in there are honestly nothing quite short of an eargasm. Yes, eargasm, i’ve been outside walking with my (gorgeously awesome) noise cancelling headphones on, doing a first time listen and a transition comes along and I don’t know why, but my first instinct is to bop my head and starting cheesing.
But look, no discredit to albums who don’t have this feature, they can tell the same quality of stories, provoke emotion, and make you bop your head and smile like an idiot. Music in all forms is welcome, loved AND most importantly, appreciated.
happy listening!
